MAREX (MEMBRANE ASSISTED REACTIONS)

MAREX™ for Driving Equilibrium Condensation Reactions to Completion

Our MAREX Systems are available in four different modes – wherein they are directly or indirected integrated with reactions  using pervaporation or vapor permeation membranes. As water is continuously removed, reaction speeds up and goes to near completion. Therefore, need for downstream separations and purification of products is drastically reduced or sometimes eliminated.

MAREX™ Reactant Types

MAREX is applicable for wide range of condensation reactions. Most common applications are esterification and amidoamine synthesis.

Specifically, for esters, MAREX may be applied to the following reaction mixture types (VIVA, VINA, NIVA) as listed below. Most common application is removal of water from a mixture containing NIVA –non-volatile carboxylic acid and volatile alcohol (example: ethyl lactate, isopropyl laurate etc.).

For NINA – nonvolatile carboxylic acids and non-volatile alcohols, generally, water phase splits, therefore,  MAREX is not used.

VoloPure™ Multipurpose SolvDry System

The ZeoSep and PolyGSep technology-based system recovers the mobile phase solvent from the effluent stream generated during the process and returns it at a level of purity that can be reused in the manufacturing process. This drastically reduces solvent consumption and waste generation while maintaining high product purity.

The process schematic is shown for a Continuous system which is offered with three different models (as shown in table below). Stream specifications from a previous project has been shown below.

Since the system is multipurpose, a particular model can be used for processing other solvents as well. The rated capacities are given in the table below with reference to Model B:
